After Tim Cook replaced Jobs as CEO, the Mac underwent a period of neglect, but was later reinvigorated with the introduction of popular high-end Macs and the transition to Apple silicon, which brought the Mac to the same ARM processor architecture as iOS devices. The 1996 acquisition of NeXT brought Steve Jobs back to Apple, who oversaw products which moved Macs into the mainstream, including the iMac, Mac OS X operating system, the Mac transition to Intel processors in 2005-6, and later brought features from the iPhone to the Mac including Retina displays. Color graphics support was added with the Macintosh II in 1987 and in 1984 Macs moved to PowerPC processors, but the computers were unable to compete with commodity IBM PC compatibles. Development of the system was originated by Jef Raskin, then taken over by Steve Jobs, who resigned from Apple in 1985. The original Macintosh, with a 9 inch monochrome monitor built into the case, was introduced by a television commercial entitled " 1984" shown during Super Bowl XVIII. Macs are sold with the macOS operating system. The product lineup includes the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro laptops, as well as the iMac, Mac Mini, Mac Studio, and Mac Pro desktops.
